Public Safety

PREVENT REPEAT CRIMES

ACCOUNTABILITY + PATHWAYS = SUSTAINABLE SAFETY

Why This Matters

Our district thrives when we feel safe walking the streets, let our kids go out and play, park our cars without fear of them being broken into or vandalized, get packages delivered to our front doors and not worry about them disappearing.

Knowing that safety isn’t just about policing, we need to work on prevention , acountability and community trust building by ensuring that 12th district experiences a strong sense of security in their neighborhoods.

My Commitment

As State Representative, I will champion a balanced approach to public safety—one that combines effective law enforcement with strong accountability, proven prevention programs to prevent repeat crimes, and innovative investments to address the root causes of crime.

Policy Actions I Will Support

Strengthen CAPS & Community-Police Partnerships

  • Improve participation in Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) meetings; encourage officers & community to build neighborhood relationships and collaborate to address public safety,

  • Increase transparency and accountability through improved data reporting on incidents, investigations, and preventive actions taken

  • Encourage residents to report incidents and advocate for effective responses.

Enhance safety with technology

  • Advocate for better technology and resources to reduce carjackings, retail theft, and other rising crimes in the district

  • Ensure public safety funding prioritizes high-need areas

Keep the Focus on Prevention and Rehabilitation

  • Create a system where the youth-in-conflict takes accountability while enroling themselves in programs like skill building, job training, education to ensure they redefine their path and not re-offend. There can be escalating consequences for accountability.

  • Seek more state level funding for before and after school hours programs to to support vulnerable youth to build a better future,

  • Build support from businesses, civic groups, non-profits, and philanthropic foundations to amplify and strengthen government programs for under-served youth

  • Expand crisis intervention training so first responders can de-escalate situations

The Results We Seek

A 12th District Where:

  • Enhance sense of security among the 12th district residents

  • Improve community collaboration with the law enforcement while seeking accountability.

  • Invest in prevention programs before harm is done. Crime rates drop when opportunities rise.

  • Prevention programs to reduce reoffenses include creating future pathways conditional upon taking responsibility and escalating consequences.

Because real safety is built on trust, not fear
